Le ferrovie Deutsche Bundesbahn acquistarono un totale di 942 locomotive della classe V 60 / V 60.1 dalla metà degli anni '50 in poi, per utilizzarle per servizi di smistamento pesante e leggero. La differenza tra la serie V 60 (260) e V 60.1 (261) consiste nel maggiore attrito della serie 261. Le macchine hanno raggiunto una velocità massima di 30 km / h durante le manovre di manovra e una velocità della linea di 60 km / h. Ha una potenza di 478 kW. Dopo la disattivazione delle prime locomotive negli anni '80, molte furono consegnate alle amministrazioni ferroviarie nazionali ed estere.
