La BB 22200 è una serie di locomotive elettriche francesi da utilizzare sia sulla rete CC elettrificata da 1,5 kV della SNCF che sulla rete CA elettrificata da 25 kV 50 Hz. Il design delle locomotive con il cosiddetto "Nez cassé" ("Naso rotto") veniva dalla mano del francese Paul Arzens, che all'epoca era responsabile del design di diverse locomotive SNCF. Tra il 1976 e il 1986 la società Alstom costruì un totale di 205 locomotive in sei serie. Grazie alla sua capacità multi-sistema e al suo design di locomotiva universale, la BB 22200 può essere utilizzata su quasi tutte le linee elettrificate a scartamento standard in Francia di fronte ai treni merci e treni passeggeri.
