Pompe anteriori
Molte delle locomotive DR rimaste nel paese dopo la fine della guerra furono convertite alla combustione a olio. Fino alla loro sostituzione con moderne locomotive diesel ed elettriche, le locomotive del Gruppo 44 costituirono la spina dorsale del servizio di treni merci pesanti. Le locomotive erano anche chiamate "Jumbo" per la loro enorme potenza di trazione. Gli ultimi "pachidermi" furono messi fuori servizio dalla DR nel 1986.
