Power for the Alps: The series 1110

In the booming years following the war, the Austrian Federal Railways made a push for modernization, focusing on electrifying the most important railway lines in the country. This allowed for faster travel speeds and led to the introduction of the six-axle electric locomotive series 1010 in the mid-1950s.

Based on this design, a series of locomotives with increased power output and a slightly lower maximum speed was developed for use on the mountain lines of the Tauern, Brenner, and Arlberg railways. These locomotives were incorporated into the ÖBB fleet as the series 1110.

For decades, the models of the series had been a standard element of FLEISCHMANNS range of Austrian products. In the year 2025, the series will be issued as completely revisioned and in part newly constructed versions (Art. No.: 7560038, 7570038) , to meet the expectations of today's N-scale modelists.

As regards the visual appearance, the newly designed, delicate pantographs without fixing screw are among the highlights. The front part doesn't fail to impress, either. It features separately attached wipers and a detailed buffer beam. Fans of the six-axle giants can look forward to many versions. With its classy livery and the classical impeller, the green 1110 shouldn't be missing in any collection.
