The machines of the class E 41 (designated 141 from 1968 on) were delivered for the first time to the German Federal Railways (DB) in 1956. They were used on mainlines for the light and mixed traffic and reached a maximum speed of 120 km / h and had a continuous power output of 2.310 kW.
The E 41/141 series shows the different colour schemes of the German Federal Railways best. The series was painted in six different colour concepts: cobalt blue, chromium oxide green, ocean blue-beige, oriental red, orange-pebble gray and finally traffic red. From March 1987 a large number of the locomotives received an oriental red finish which some of them kept until their decommission in 2006. At the Hessian DB-manufacturer in Fulda you can still find a 141 161-0 in oriental red livery. There it is regularly used for emergency exercises during which professional re-railing of railway vehicles is rehearsed. All 141 locomotives featured a conventional push-pull control system through a 36 pin control cable and that’s how the push-pull trains started to operate throughout Germany for the first time.
