With the timetable change in December 2016, ÖBB launched its Europe-wide night train service under the brand name Nightjet. Since December 2017, Nightjet (NJ) has also been designated as a train category. The initial redesign of the coaches was carried out using adhesive films. The striking design featured a dark night blue colour with elements reminiscent of a starry sky.
Coaches previously styled in the original Nightjet design were later given a makeover. Instead of adhesive films, a painted finish in the colours of the latest Nightjet design was preferred. The once-prominent starry sky motif is now a thing of the past.
