The Swiss Federal Railways purchased the type M5/Ks-w stake wagons, later Ks 330, in seven construction lots from 1959 to 1970. Stake wagons are primarily designed to transport bulky goods such as steel, wood, large machines and motor vehicles as well as prefabricated construction parts and heavy individual loads. They are also used to transport soil and gravel.
