Motor with flywheel. Drive on four wheels, two traction tyres. Interface according to NEM 651 standards for decoder adaptation. Coupler pocket according to NEM 355 and close coupling mechanism. LED triple headlights that change with the direction of travel.

The electric locomotives had undergone major technical advances in the mid-thirties of the 20th century. The new series E18, E 44 and E 93 in particular, scored with modern equipment, efficiency and low maintenance. With the more powerful version of the E 93, one of the most famous electric locomotives in German history, the E 94 was born. When tested even at a top speed of 90 km / h, the new locomotive should come up with the same performance as the already proven E 93. For this, however, a 30 per cent increase in driving power of the motor was necessary. On November 22, 1937, the Reichsbahn signed a developement and supply contract for the E 94 with the company AEG. The following technical conditions had to be met: traction capacity of 600 t at a max. speed of 50 km/h-gradient of 25 ‰ • 1,000 t at 50 km/h-gradient of 16 ‰ • 1,600 t at 40 km/h-gradient of 10 ‰ and 2,000 t at 85 km/h in the plane. The locomotive achieved a maximum speed of 90 km/ h and had therefore a far more flexible use. So it was not only used for the heavy freight train service but also for express and passenger train services. At the DB the last German "Crocodiles" (now: BR 194) quit regular services in 1988, while at the DR (Ost), they stopped operating at the end of 1991.
