The suburban train Zurich started to operate on May 27 1990 on the lines of Switzerland's first suburban railway system in the area of the canton Zurich and the bordering regions. It is operated by various railway companies and is part of the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV).
As a market-responsible company of the ZVV, the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) are in charge of the supply and planning of the locomotives. The operating concept of the S-Bahn Zurich offers many direct connections between regions and at the same time excels with a dense schedule so passengers can reach the center quickly.
